12 March 2007 -- The Philippine Coffee Board is pleased to announce the opening of Kape Isla, its new flagship store on the ground floor of Serendra in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Kape Isla is a café and store featuring coffees from all over the Philippines. It serves coffee brands and blends produced and roasted by the members of the Philippine Coffee Board.

The Coffee Board was established in 2002 to build up consumer awareness about Philippine coffee and to educate and train farmers on how to grow coffee. The Philippines was once a leading producer of coffee in the world and still grows all four known varieties of coffee – Robusta, Excelsa, Arabica, and Liberica (Barako). These coffees are roasted as single-origin coffees or blended coffees and are available at Kape Isla from the Coffee Board’s 27 merchant members.

“Every time you order a cup of coffee or buy a bag of beans from Kape Isla or any of our Coffee Board members, you directly help Philippine farmers,” according to Coffee Board co-chairman Nicholas Matti.

Kape Isla offers a rotation of “Coffees of the Week” from all over the country, served as brewed coffee, espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and iced coffee drinks and shakes. Additionally, Philippine coffees are available in whole beans or ground coffee for home or office use or as gifts for friends.

“Aside from serving coffee, the store was designed to basically celebrate being Filipino and to instill pride in the country,” states Coffee Board director Guillermo Luz. In keeping with its Modern Filipino theme, Kape Isla serves light Filipino meals and merienda and exclusively plays music performed by Philippine artists in the flagship store designed by renowned Filipino architectural firm Leandro Locsin & Associates.
