7th Philippines-Singapore Business Council Meeting
Opportunities in the Philippines and in New Markets

The Philippines-Singapore Business Council held its 7th meeting on 23 August 2002 at the Hotel Inter-Continental, Makati City. The half day meeting was participated in by some 30 executives who flew in from Singapore and more than 60 locally-based executives of Philippine companies or Singapore companies with local operations. With the theme "Re-Assessing Opportunities in the Philippines," speakers discussed the bright prospects in such sectors such as I.T. and I.T.-enabled services, support industries and services in industrial parks and economic zones, and infrastructure projects. Guillermo LuchangcoIn his opening remarks, PSBC Co-Chairman Guillermo Luchangco (Chairman and CEO, The ICCP Group) highlighted the important role the Council plays in strengthening the ties between the two countries, in terms of providing advice on how to do business in each country. He also announced that resident Singaporean companies are now welcome to join PSBC as associate members. This would help in increasing the frequency and depth of contacts between the business communities of the two countries.

The Singaporean delegation was headed by Mr. Lim Chee Onn, Executive Chairman of Keppel Corporation, one of the biggest conglomerates in Singapore which has interests in marine, infrastructure, and property. In his remarks, he encouraged a stronger Philippines-Singapore ties to seize the opportunities being presented by globalization, specifically the possibility of forming joint ventures between companies of the two countries to invest in third countries.

The closing cocktails and dinner were hosted by RCBC at their corporate headquarters, The RCBC Plaza.
