REVIEW AND OUTLOOK

In Aid of Legislation

Through the conduct of public hearings and investigations, Congress is able to expose and keep in check incidents of wastage, abuse, and graft in the bureaucracy – bringing about significant savings and better use of state funds and resources.

Both the Committees on Good Government (House) and Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations (Senate) are the primary bodies tasked to look into cases of malfeasance, misfeasance and non-feasance in office by officers and employees of the government, its political subdivisions and instrumentalities; implementation of the provisions of the Constitution on nepotism and the investigation of any matter of public interest on its own initiative or brought to its attention by any member of Congress. Nevertheless, any committee can conduct their respective inquiries or investigation in-aid-of legislation if a case referred to it merits such an action.
