The
Philippine Children's Hour generated a total of P35.1 million
(US$725,000), making the Philippine campaign third in the
worldwide effort. Globally, Ireland (US$6.8 million) and Germany
(US$1 million) headed the list. The Philippines, however,
was the first in terms of individual donors, no small feat
for a country with low wages. The one-time donation from the
Elena Tan Foundation of P9 million was the largest contribution
from a single donor. It was earmarked to upgrade children's
ward facilities of charitable hospitals.
Over 391 companies and 84,000 individuals contributed to
the Philippine campaign. Topping the list was Globe Telecom
with a donation of P1.26 million, representing contributions
of 2,000 employees. Globe Telecom's mother company, Ayala
Corporation, followed next with P868,047. Land Bank raised
P619,512.02 from 6,788 employees, making it the biggest government
donor with the most number of employees contributing.
