After
the success of Children's Hour 1999 in the Philippines,
the Steering Committee chaired by Ayala Corporation
president and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Vice-chair
Gina Lopez have converged once again to champion the
cause for millions of Filipino
children in desperate need of aid. This year's Steering
Committee is composed of dynamic
leaders including Emily Abrera, Corazon Alma de Leon,
Ramon del Rosario Jr., Renato de Villa, Carlos Dominguez,
Susana Magrigal, Narcisa Escaler, Bob Gothong, Patricia
Licuanan, Guillermo Luz, Justo Ortiz, Alexandra Prieto-Romualdez,
Mayan Quebral, Pedro Roxas, Bienvenido Tan Jr., and
Bishop Socrates Villegas D.D.
The Children's Hour, re-launched
in Manila on 14 August 2002, is again calling on individuals
and companies to donate one hour's worth of their earnings
for the benefit of programs dedicated to children and
youth. The event, first of a nationwide series of launches,
including Cebu and Davao, celebrated the unity or artists,
corporations, and numerous concerned individuals who
presented their pledges of support to former president
Corazon Aquino, the project's honorary chairperson.
At the end of the hour-long program, some 20 companies
managed to raise P3,243,343 for the project. The launch
in Davao took place on 9 September at the Grand Ballroom
of the Marco Polo Hotel, with Zobel and spokesperson,
National Youth Commissioner Bam Aquino and Mindanao
coordinator Carlos Dominguea. The launch in Cebu was
held on 27 September at the Activity Center of the Ayala
Center Cebu, with the participation of vice-chair Gina
Lopez and Visayan coordinator Bob Gothong.
To date, the Children's Hour in the Philippines
has raised about P40 million that we have channeled
to beneficiary organizations such as Bantay Bata, Tabang
Mindanaw II, International Deaf Education Association,
Kamalayan Development Foundation, Bulig Foundation,
the Center of Exccellence in Public Elementary Education,
and the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Street Children Project.
Recently, Children's Hour sealed partnerships
with cooperating institutions such as the Management
Association of the Philippines, Philippine Marketing
Association, Makati Business Club, Personnel Management
Association of the Philippines, Philippine Band of Mercy,
Employees Confederation of the Philippines, Financial
Executives Institute of the Philippines, and Le Souflle.
These institutions pledged their full support to Children's
Hour. Specifically, the Makati Business Club has donated
P100,000 to kick-off the campaign.
According to Zobel, "We wish to build
on the wellspring of generosity to relaunch the Children's
Hour to give them once again an opportunity to champion
the cause of children among their employees and company
executives. We can then urge other companies to come
and join us in the campaign to save our children from
illiteracy, homelessness, hunger and abuse."
How
to donate?
You may make a contribution to this worthy cause. For
CEOs, you may encourage your employees to donate at
least an hour of their pay to Children's Hour and allow
the company to deduct the donation from their salaries.
You may also send individual donations
