In support of President Arroyo's economic agenda as
enunciated in her first State of the Nation Address on 23
July 2001, the Makati Business Club organized in August 2001
six task forces: housing, education,
ICT (Information and Communications Technology), agriculture,
tax reforms, and tourism. MBC
believes that these are the areas that government should focus
on to facilitate the development process. Creating its own
task forces along these areas was MBC's way of responding
to the President's call for a more active private sector involvement
in nationbuilding.
Each task force is chaired by an executive from
MBC member-companies: Housing by Ayala Land Chairman Fernando Zobel
de Ayala; Tax Reforms by Asian Institute of Management President Roberto de Ocampo; Tourism
by AB Capital and Investment Corporation Chairman and CEO Ramon
del Rosario Jr and University of Asia and the Pacific's Dean of
the School of Economics Dr. Bernardo Villegas; Agriculture by Lapanday
Corporation Chairman Luis Lorenzo Jr; Education by Dr. Villegas;
and ICT by Systems Standard Incorporated Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Augusto Lagman.
