MBC celebrates its 30th anniversary
1 December 2011 – Established in October 1981 by industrialist Enrique Zobel and other enlightened businessmen, the Makati Business Club marked its 30th anniversary with a dinner celebration at the Peninsula Manila. CEOs and other senior executives of MBC’s member companies, as well as representatives from the government, the diplomatic corps, and MBC’s partner organizations, gathered to commemorate this special event and to listen to the guest of honor and keynote speaker, President Benigno Aquino III.
Integrity Initiative Unified Code of Conduct launched at 1st Integrity Summit
15 September 2011 – The Integrity Initiative, an anti-corruption movement being pushed by a consortium of 21 groups and associations that includes the Makati Business Club, today launched a Unified Code of Conduct that aims to make a significant dent in the fight against corruption, especially in the private sector. The launch took place at the 1st Integrity Summit at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, where President Benigno Aquino III, the summit’s keynote speaker, was presented with a copy of the document.
MBC Board hosts appreciation lunch for former executive director Alberto Lim
8 September 2011 – The Board of Trustees of the Makati Business Club today hosted an appreciation lunch in honor of former MBC executive director and former secretary of the Department of Tourism Alberto Lim.
MBC announces the Philippines’ performance in the WEF’S Global Competitiveness Report 2011-2012
7 September 2011 – As the World Economic Forum’s partner institute for the Philippines in the preparation of the Global Competitiveness Report, the Makati Business Club today announced that the country’s performance vis-à-vis 142 economies has been cited by the authors of this year’s report as follows:
“Up 10 places to 75th, the Philippines posts one of the largest improvements in this year’s rankings. The vast majority of individual indicators composing the GCI [Global Competitiveness Index] improved, sometimes markedly.”
MBC reports results of latest Executive Outlook Survey
7 August 2011 – The Makati Business Club has released the results of its second semester 2011 Executive Outlook Survey conducted from 19 July to 2 August 2011 and participated in by more than 10% of its members.
The survey sought to capture MBC members’ economic outlook and opinion on issues concerning public governance.
Oxford Business Group, MBC seal second partnership for forthcoming country report
14 July 2011 – The Oxford Business Group, the global publishing, research, and consultancy firm, is gearing up for its latest project in the Philippines by pooling resources for a second time with the Makati Business Club.
MBC will team up with OBG’s research and editorial team for The Report: The Philippines 2012, which marks OBG’s fourth business publication on the country’s economic activity and investment opportunities.
PH-British Business Council and British ambassador discuss PH-UK relations
28 March 2011 – The Philippines-British Business Council, led by its chairman Ambassador Jesus Tambunting, today met with British Ambassador Stephen Lillie at the Tower Club in Makati City. The meeting’s discussions revolved around the current relations between the Philippines and the UK.
